Top NPP figures rally behind Wontumi as Bawumia joins bail push

Divine Agorhom, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NPP, spoke to Citi News. He revealed that top party leaders are working to secure bail for Chairman Wontumi. This includes former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 NPP flagbearer.

Agorhom emphasized that support for Wontumi is a collective effort. Party leadership at all levels is involved in securing his release from EOCO custody.

Wontumi has been held since May 27 on fraud and money laundering charges. The bail conditions include a GH₵50 million surety, which some party members find harsh.

Agorhom mentioned that the party is exploring legal options to address this situation. He hopes they can ease Wontumi’s release terms.

He stated that if legal avenues fail, they will pool resources to help him. Agorhom confirmed that Dr. Bawumia and other party leaders are actively engaged in this effort.

All leading members, including parliamentary caucus and national executives, are involved in finding a solution.
