Torkornoo undermining her own case with Dame as Lawyer – Kpebu warns

Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, has made a statement about suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. He urged her to reconsider her choice of legal representation.

Kpebu spoke on Citi Eyewitness News on May 22. He criticized her decision to hire former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame as counsel. He called this choice “tacky” and potentially harmful to her case.

Dame is currently representing Justice Torkornoo in a Supreme Court motion. This motion seeks to stop the committee investigating petitions against her from proceeding. Kpebu expressed concern over Dame's reputation, stating he has been accused of suborning witnesses.

He questioned why the Chief Justice would choose Dame given these controversies. Kpebu emphasized the need for credibility in such a sensitive matter. He suggested that she should fire Dame.

Kpebu also warned that Dame’s involvement could alienate public support. This is especially true among those who favor a transparent hearing of the allegations. The suspended Chief Justice is challenging both the committee's proceedings and some members' participation in it. She seeks relief from the Supreme Court to halt the inquiry.
