Traders are suffering – Afenyo-Markin tells govt following GHC 200,000 donation to Adum fire victims

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has appealed to the Ghanaian government. He wants swift aid for traders affected by a recent fire at Adum Market in Kumasi.

On Monday, April 14, he visited the market area. He led a delegation from the Minority Caucus in Parliament. They expressed sympathy for victims and assessed the damage.

Afenyo-Markin urged the government to act quickly. He suggested using resources from Ghana’s contingency fund to help traders. “The traders are suffering,” he said, highlighting their difficult situation.

The fire damaged large parts of the busy market. Many traders lost their shops and goods, worsening their financial struggles. In support, the Minority Caucus donated GHC 200,000 to assist those affected.

“We urge the government to use contingency funds immediately,” Afenyo-Markin stated. He believes that if committed, the government can rebuild the market within a year.

The caucus’ visit came just days after the disaster. It reflects growing calls for decisive government action. Many want to restore livelihoods and ensure safety for those relying on Adum Market for survival.
