Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) President, Albert Kwabena Dumfour, has called on traditional media outlets to bolster their presence on social media to combat misinformation effectively.
Speaking on Starr FM, Mr. Dumfour emphasized that platforms like TikTok and others can serve as points of reference for verifying news, helping counter fake stories circulating online.
He highlighted the recent false report of Serwaa Amihere’s arrest as an example where stronger social media engagement could have enabled quicker fact-checking.
Mr. Dumfour urged traditional media, including outlets like Starr FM and GHOne TV, to take responsibility for ensuring their visibility and credibility on social platforms, becoming reliable sources for accurate information in the digital age.
