Ella Esiman Nongo is the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Adentan. She announced that three people died due to heavy rains in Accra on May 18, 2025.
The fatalities occurred in Lakeside, Nanakrom, and New Legon. Two victims were from Lakeside. A four-year-old girl died in Nanakrom, and a man was killed near New Legon.
Nongo spoke on the CITI Breakfast show. She explained that building on waterways causes flooding issues. There is no exit route for water during heavy rains.
On Sunday at around 3:00 p.m., nearly three hours of rain caused flooding in several areas. Weija, Kaneshie, Adabraka, Adenta-Dodowa, and Tema were among the affected locations.
Tabitha Ayillah is a member of the Communications Team for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). She expressed anger towards Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbe and Minister of Defense Omane Boamah.
Ayillah criticized them for discussing football on social media during the floods. She felt they showed no empathy for those affected by the disaster.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, she asked where their concern was for Ghanaians' livelihoods. Ayillah noted that Dogbe leads the anti-flood committee set up by the President.
She pointed out that while people struggled to return home after church or shopping, Dogbe and Boamah were online discussing sports.
Ayillah also mentioned their lack of statements addressing public concerns about flooding. She found it sad and shameful that they prioritized football over helping citizens in need.
