Tragedy at Madina Redco: Fire destroys over 150 structures, claims one life

Late on April 18, a fierce fire broke out near the Madina Redco flats. The blaze caused significant destruction and claimed the life of a young woman.

The Ghana National Fire Service reported that the fire started at 11:15 p.m. It destroyed over 150 wooden structures, affecting both commercial and residential areas.

Emergency responders from the Madina Fire Station arrived at 11:17 p.m. They received help from teams in Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and the National Headquarters.

Despite their quick response, the flames had already spread widely. By 12:02 a.m., firefighters found the fire fully developed. They managed to contain it by 2:22 a.m.

Divisional Officer Two Desmond Ackah stated that over 150 structures were destroyed. Tragically, a Nigerian woman named Beauty lost her life in the fire. She was believed to be in her early twenties and got trapped inside.

Her charred body has been given to the Madina Police for investigation.

Although there was significant loss, firefighters prevented an even greater disaster. Ackah noted they saved over 200 nearby structures, including the Redco flats.
