Translate Cedi gains into relief for citizens – Minority tells govt

The Minority in Parliament is urging the government to act quickly. They want the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi to benefit the public.

The local currency has strengthened against major trading currencies recently. This has led to calls for lower prices on goods and services.

At a Leaders’ Media Briefing, Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei welcomed this improvement. However, she emphasized that average Ghanaians must feel its impact.

“Everyone is happy that the cedi is strong,” she said. “But what does it mean for living costs?”

Appiagyei stressed that actions are needed to ensure lower costs reflect the stronger cedi. Many people believe that a stronger cedi should lead to lower consumer prices, especially for imports.
