Ghana's aviation sector is set for rejuvenation. The Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has inaugurated a 10-member task force. This team will work on establishing a new national airline. The goal is to make Ghana a competitive aviation hub in West Africa. It will also improve regional air connectivity.
Charles Asare, former Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, chairs the task force. During the inauguration, Minister Nikpe highlighted the government's commitment to a sustainable national carrier. He noted that other airlines benefit from existing facilities at the national airport.
"It is only proper that we also gain from these advantages," he said. He emphasized Ghana's role as Africa's gateway and its ambition to become an aviation hub. "We cannot achieve this without participating in the industry," he added.
The president formed this task force to help Ghana compete effectively. The Ministry of Transport aims to make Ghana a transportation hub across all sectors: aviation, maritime, and road.
Chair Charles Asare spoke on behalf of the task force. He promised their commitment to successfully launching the national airline. The team will focus on developing a strong business model for this initiative.
"The vision is clear and our tasks are defined," he stated. Some members have prior experience working together, which gives him confidence in their abilities.
