Transport Ministry begins consultation on new licensing regime for ‘Okada’, tricycle

The government will introduce a new licensing system for motorcycle and tricycle riders. This was announced by the Minister of Transport, Mr. Joseph Bukari Nikpe.

The new system will empower the police to enforce road traffic laws. Motorcycle and tricycle riders must follow these laws.

Mr. Nikpe also mentioned that riders would join unions under this regime. These unions will work with the police service. A database of all motorcycles and tricycles will be created.

The Minister shared this information during an interview with journalists. The interview took place at a national consultation in Accra yesterday. This consultation focused on reviewing the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 L.I. 2180.
