Transport Company Ignores President Mahama’s Order on Weija Ramsar Site
A transport company is ignoring President John Mahama’s order. The president directed them to reverse illegal reclamation of the Weija Ramsar site.
Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo expressed disappointment in the company's actions. She warned that the government may take extreme measures if they continue to defy orders.
During a tour of flood-prone areas, Mahama ordered Caitec to undo the reclamation at their own cost. This was necessary for easy dredging as Accra prepares for the rainy season.
However, a recent inspection by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) showed that the company has not complied.
Ocloo stated that they had sent a letter to Caitec but saw no action taken. She mentioned plans to return with machinery to address the situation.
“There are many machines available, so this should not be an issue,” she said. Ocloo emphasized that this non-compliance seems intentional and questioned who might be compromising with them.
