Transport fares will drop by 15% starting May 24, 2025. This follows successful talks between transport operators and the Ministry of Transport.
The fare change reflects recent economic trends. The cedi has appreciated against the US dollar. This has led to a significant decrease in fuel prices.
Additionally, the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association urged members to lower auto parts prices. This is in response to the improved exchange rate.
Abass Imoro, an Industrial Relations Officer with GPRTU, confirmed the fare reduction. He spoke with Citi News about this timely measure. It aims to ease financial burdens on commuters.
Imoro stated, “We have agreed to reduce lorry fares by 15%. However, it will take effect from Saturday.” He noted that spare parts sellers promised price reductions but they haven't happened yet. Lubricant prices remain unchanged as well. Despite this, they decided on a 15% fare reduction.
