Trobu MP speaks out against attempts to remove Chief Justice from office

Gloria Owusu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Trobu, has raised concerns. She opposes President John Dramani Mahama's petitions to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Owusu calls this action unconstitutional and a threat to judicial independence. She believes it undermines progress in gender equity.

In a Facebook post, she noted the silence of many women activists is troubling. She stressed the need to protect the highest-ranked woman in the judiciary.

Owusu pledged to fight against any politically motivated attempts to remove Chief Justice Torkornoo. She referenced the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act 2024 and Ghana's commitment to SDG 5 on gender equality.

"As a female legislator and advocate for women's rights, I will not stay silent," she declared.
