Tullow Ghana, the lead operator of the Jubilee Field, has resumed gas exports. This follows a successful fix to a technical issue on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah (KNK).
The company issued a statement on Tuesday. It noted that gas exports were temporarily halted over the weekend. This was due to a gas system trip on the offshore production platform. A technical team worked to identify the problem.
Tullow implemented corrective measures for safe operations. As of Monday, May 12, they resumed exporting about 100 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas. This will help meet Ghana’s domestic energy needs.
The resumption is expected to boost power generation. It will also reduce pressure on other energy sources in the country. Tullow Ghana plays an important role in the upstream oil and gas sector.
The FPSO Kwame Nkrumah is central to production in the Jubilee oil field. It is a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel operating offshore Ghana. Named after Ghana's first president, it has been vital since its launch in 2010.
The FPSO can produce 120,000 barrels of oil per day and 160 million standard cubic feet of gas daily. The company remains committed to safe and reliable operations for Ghana’s energy security.
Earlier this year, Tullow announced a 16-day maintenance shutdown of the Jubilee Oil Field. This was aimed at improving production efficiency and minimizing risks in offshore operations. To mitigate supply impacts during maintenance, Tullow agreed with the government to source gas from TEN fields temporarily.
