Two young men were arrested by Walewale Police in Ghana's North East Region. They are accused of stealing a pistol and ammunition from an Immigration officer.
The police press release, dated May 19, 2025, details the incident. The suspects are 18-year-old Mohammed Basit and 22-year-old Baba Rasid. They broke into the officer's room around noon on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
While the officer was away, they stole his Smith and Wesson pistol. They also took two CZ rifle magazines loaded with ammunition. Each magazine contained 30 rounds.
Authorities caught the suspects through intelligence-led efforts. They were found in Kperiga, a suburb of Walewale. The suspects were hiding the stolen weapons in a parked vehicle.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. The police confirmed they will be brought before the court soon. Investigations are ongoing, according to the statement.
