Two granted GH¢800,000 bail each for causing damage

Two out of six individuals appeared in an Accra Circuit Court. They are accused of damaging a fence wall. The wall belongs to Babbel Limited and is valued at GH¢1,541,368.

All six face charges of conspiracy and unlawful property damage. The accused are Joseph Nii Laryea Adjei, Ali Ibrahim, Joseph Adjei, Nii Adjei Akpor I, Alhassan Hafiz, and Daniel Tetteh.

Joseph Nii Laryea Adjei has an additional charge of abetment of crime. In court, he and Ali Ibrahim denied the charges. The other four accused were not present.

The court granted bail to the two present individuals. Each was set at GHC800,000 with one surety required. The prosecution must regularize its processes regarding the charges.

The case was adjourned to July 7, 2025. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Frimpong is prosecuting the case. He stated that Peter Asare is the complainant from Babbel Company Limited.

In 2012, Babbel acquired a 100-acre land parcel at Addoteiman for residential development. They constructed a wall and security post on this land under surveillance.

Joseph Nii Laryea Adjei claimed ownership of the land and filed a court case against land guards. The complainant joined this case as an interested party; it remains pending.

Despite this ongoing litigation, on June 5, 2024, Adjei allegedly damaged the fenced wall with land guards' help. This incident was reported to police leading to Adjei's arrest and bail.

On October 19, 2024, Adjei allegedly conspired with others to cause further damage to the wall. He reportedly worked with Ali Ibrahim, Joseph Adjei, and Nii Adjei Akpor I in this conspiracy.

Adjei also conspired with Alhassan Hafiz and Daniel Tetteh to destroy more sections of the wall. After a report to Police Headquarters, a patrol team arrested all accused persons.

The Police Crime Scene Management Unit assessed the damage along with Architectural and Engineering Services Limited. Their reports estimated damages at GH¢1,541,368.50 according to the prosecution.
