Two men plead not guilty to GH¢20k recruitment scam, granted bail

Court News

The Accra Circuit Court, led by His Honour Isaac Addo, has granted bail. The bail is set at GH¢20,000 each with one surety for two men. They are accused of defrauding a man by pretending to secure him a job at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.

The accused are Benjamin Kwame Amegbor, 52, and Dadson Kwaku Agbo, 54. Amegbor is a businessman while Agbo is a Reverend Minister. Both pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and fraud charges under the Criminal and Other Offences Act.

According to Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer, the incident happened in 2022 in Nungua, Accra. The complainant, David Mac Agbley, is a procurement consultant. He claims the accused conspired to defraud him of GH¢20,000.

They promised jobs for him and his sister-in-law at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority. David informed Amegbor about an opportunity through the Presidency. Amegbor then convinced him to pay the amount.

Despite promises that job placements would happen within three months, nothing occurred. In 2024, Amegbor approached David again with claims of a new opportunity at the Ghana Immigration Service. This also failed to produce results.

David lodged a complaint with the police in February 2025. Investigations revealed that Amegbor admitted receiving the money and gave it to Agbo along with documents like educational certificates.

Agbo claimed he handed over the money and documents to Eugene Arhin but cannot locate him now. The case has been adjourned until June 11, 2025 for further hearing.
