U-20 AFCON 2025: 'We want to leave a legacy' - Aaron Essel ahead of Egypt clash

Black Satellites defender Aaron Essel says the team wants to "leave a legacy." They are preparing for their quarterfinal game at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana will face hosts Egypt on Monday, May 13. They hope to reach the semifinals and secure a spot in the next FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The Black Satellites remain unbeaten in the tournament. They have two wins and one draw from the group stage.

While others discuss scouts and agents, Essel focuses on a bigger goal. He stated, "We’re here in Egypt on a mission to qualify for the World Cup."

He added, "We’re not just playing for ourselves; we’re playing for Ghana. We want to leave a legacy."

In the group stage, Ghana beat Senegal and Central African Republic. They drew 1-1 with DR Congo in their opening match.

The Black Satellites return to this competition after winning it in 2021. They also aim to return to the global stage for the first time since 2015.
