Ghana’s U-20 head coach, Desmond Ofei, says his team is ready. They will face Egypt in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Ofei calls this match a “final” and crucial for World Cup qualification.
Ahead of Monday’s game at New Suez Stadium, Ofei spoke about its importance. He said, “This is going to be like a final for us.” He emphasized that it is not just a game; it’s against history.
Ghana has won the African U-20 championship four times and once at the world level. They respect their opponents, Egypt. Ofei noted that Egypt has talented players.
“Egypt is a decent side,” he said. “Ghanaians know their strengths.” He believes in his team's quality as well.
The coach stressed the need to stay true to Ghana's football identity. “We need to stick to our DNA and philosophy,” he stated. His players are eager for success and want to prove themselves.
Ofei also mentioned that they are ready for any situation during the game. “We are prepared for anything—extra time or penalties,” he explained. They have a clear game plan and aim to execute it confidently.
He views Ghana's football legacy as an inspiration rather than a burden. “Yes, Ghana has history, but it inspires us,” he said. This match is an opportunity for the team to elevate themselves.
Ofei began his interview with a tribute on Mother’s Day. He thanked his mother and acknowledged all mothers’ support: “Happy Mother’s Day! Your love means everything.”
The Black Satellites will play Egypt at 1800 local time (1500 GMT). It promises to be a high-stakes encounter with World Cup qualification on the line.
