U.S and Ghana armies co-host weeklong Land Forces Summit in Accra

Around 40 nations and 300 personnel will attend the African Land Forces Summit (ALFS) 2025. The event takes place in Accra, Ghana, from April 7-10, 2025.

ALFS is an annual summit for land force commanders in Africa. It also includes partner nations, academics, and government leaders.

The U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) are co-hosting this year’s summit. Previous summits were held in the U.S., Uganda, Senegal, Tanzania, Malawi, Nigeria, Botswana, Ethiopia, Cote d'Ivoire, and Zambia.

This year's theme is "Optimising Land Forces for the Emerging Security Environment." Senior leaders will build relationships and share information on mutual interests. They will also encourage cooperation to tackle challenges.

U.S. Ambassador to Ghana Virginia E. Palmer emphasized the importance of adapting armed forces. She noted that violent extremism threatens regional stability and prosperity.

"Ghana is a key democratic model and exporter of security," she said.

Major General Andrew C. Gainey from SETAF-AF highlighted the summit's role in addressing shared security challenges. He thanked the Ghana Armed Forces for their partnership in organizing the event.

He looks forward to a productive week with all attendees at the summit.
