The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has made progress in higher education. However, it still faces major infrastructure challenges. This was revealed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong.
He stated that UCC lacks enough residential facilities for students. Many students apply to study at the university, but there is not enough space. Prof. Boampong expressed concern about the gap between academic growth and infrastructure improvements.
Efforts to partner with private investors have not been successful so far. “Our commitment to collaborate with investors has proven futile,” he said.
Prof. Boampong appealed to various stakeholders for support. He called on government agencies, development partners, and corporate institutions to help bridge the infrastructure gap.
“Together, we can ensure quality education is accessible to every Ghanaian,” he added. He also mentioned the urgent need to modernize classrooms and upgrade digital infrastructure.
Limited financial resources hinder UCC's ability to provide essential teaching materials and refurbish facilities. This affects their capacity to enhance digital learning tools as well.
Prof. Boampong made these remarks during the 15th session of the 57th congregation at UCC. The ceremony celebrated 1,187 graduands from the School of Graduate Studies who received degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
Despite these challenges, Prof. Boampong affirmed UCC’s commitment to improving graduate education. “We will mobilize resources and foster partnerships for impactful research and training,” he stated.
