The youth of Nangodi, in the Nabdam District, have condemned the murder of Mohammed Seidu Akugri. He was an officer with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Bongo District. His charred remains were found in a burnt vehicle on May 19, 2025.
During a press conference on May 21, the distressed youth expressed shock and outrage. They described the killing as barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable. They urged security agencies to investigate quickly and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Initial reports indicate that Mr. Akugri was ambushed by unknown assailants. This occurred between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. while he was returning home from Bolgatanga. He was allegedly shot, and his vehicle was set on fire. His body was later found burnt beyond recognition.
This act has sent shockwaves through the region and instilled fear among residents. Ditamina Gambil Emmanuel spoke for the youth at the press conference. He emphasized that Nangodi is a peaceful community that does not condone violence.
“We are heartbroken by this tragedy,” he said. “We urge police to conduct a thorough investigation.” The youth also called for increased security presence in their area to restore public confidence.
Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for the suspects. Pressure is mounting from residents and civil society for justice and accountability.
