UE/R: Suspected gunman arrested, weapons seized in military operation at Binduri

A suspected gunman has been arrested in the Binduri District. This follows a search operation by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). The operation took place early on Monday, April 21, 2025. It is part of efforts to restore calm in Bawku and nearby areas.

These areas have faced clashes and gunfire recently. According to a GAF statement, troops responded quickly to gunshots from Binduri Central Market. They cordoned off the area for safety.

A joint team from the 11 Mechanised Battalion, Joint Task Force, and Police conducted a thorough search. During this operation, one suspected gunman was caught and handed over to the Police. The security team also seized several military-grade items.

The items included an empty M16 rifle magazine, an AK-47 rifle, and a G3 rifle. They also found 370 rounds of M16 and AK-47 ammunition, along with 128 rounds of G3 ammunition. Other seized items included a machete, four fragmentation jackets, boots, and a helmet.

Later that day, unidentified gunmen tried to enter Binduri but were intercepted by military personnel on patrol. This led to an exchange of gunfire before the assailants fled.

The GAF reported that the situation is now under control. Troops remain on high alert for any further threats. The GAF is committed to ensuring peace in Bawku and urges residents to support these efforts for normalcy.
