Peter Lanchene Toobu, the MP for Wa West, has raised concerns about a potential water crisis in the Upper West Region. He warns that illegal mining activities must be stopped urgently.
During his tour of affected communities like Dochira, Bankpama, and Chiatanga, he noted severe pollution of the Black Volta. This pollution could have serious consequences for the region's water supply.
After the tour, Toobu spoke to journalists. He called for unity in fighting illegal mining. He stressed the need for both spiritual and physical commitment.
Toobu warned that water shortages would soon affect Wa Central. He said this could lead to importing water into northern Ghana, which would be embarrassing.
He believes this battle must be won on multiple fronts. Toobu has engaged local chiefs and stakeholders to address the issue. He challenged them to take action against illegal mining activities.
