The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has teamed up with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Gender Ministry to tackle gender-based violence in Ghana’s transport sector during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
The campaign, launched at a public transport station in Accra, aims to address verbal, physical, and emotional abuse experienced by hawkers, drivers, and passengers.
Participants shared real-life accounts of mistreatment, highlighting the urgent need for change.
UNFPA’s Country Representative, Dr. Wilfred Ochan, stressed the importance of reaching everyday people with messages of prevention and support.
The Gender Ministry noted progress, including the launch of the Orange Support Centre and the renovation of the Domestic Violence Centre.
