US Embassy cautions Ghanaians against visa fraud, illegal immigration

The U.S. Embassy in Ghana has issued a warning to Ghanaians. They advised against illegal visa processes and unauthorized immigration. Such actions can lead to visa refusals, revocations, or deportation.

This warning was made during a Consular Media Day on May 9, 2025. The event aimed to clarify the U.S. visa process and improve visitor experiences. In 2024, the Embassy received 61,000 visa applications and issued 25,000 visas.

Consular General Elliot Fertik spoke at the event. He reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to a transparent travel experience for Ghanaians. “We welcome visitors from Ghana interested in studying or investing in the U.S.,” he said.

Fertik noted that applicants must follow U.S. laws when entering the country. He emphasized that the government has a strict stance on illegal immigration. “The U.S. has zero tolerance for illegal immigrants,” he added.

Those who break the rules may face legal consequences, including visa refusal or bans. Fertik stressed the importance of understanding proper visa application procedures.

He also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the application process for transparency and customer experience. “Visitors must obey laws and regulations,” he stated.

Fertik mentioned improvements made to enhance customer experience at the Embassy. The Department of State prioritizes safety for U.S. citizens abroad while helping those in need.

He concluded by emphasizing two key missions: facilitating legal travel and protecting borders from illegal immigration.
