The United States Embassy in Ghana announced it issued about 25,000 visas to Ghanaians in 2024. This was from a total of 61,000 applications received. The information was shared during the Embassy’s Consular Media Day on May 9, 2025.
The event aimed to clarify the visa application process and improve visitor experience. U.S. Consular General Elliot Fertik spoke at the event. He emphasized the Embassy's commitment to a transparent and efficient visa process for Ghanaians.
Fertik said, “We welcome visitors from Ghana interested in studying or investing in the U.S.” He noted that last year, the embassy issued 25,000 visas for work, study, or visits. However, he reminded applicants to follow U.S. laws when entering the country.
He also highlighted the U.S.'s strict stance against illegal immigration. Fertik advised travelers to avoid shortcuts or fraudulent methods for entry into the U.S. “The U.S. has zero tolerance for illegal immigrants,” he stated.
Those who break rules may face visa refusal or bans from entry. Fertik stressed that Ghanaians should understand how to apply properly for visas. The embassy aims to ensure clarity on expectations during the application process.
