Ukraine and Ghana to deepen cooperation in cybersecurity and digital innovation

Ukraine and Ghana are enhancing cooperation in cybersecurity and digital technology. This follows a virtual meeting between officials from both countries.

The meeting involved Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Anton Demokhin, and Ghana’s Minister for Communications, Samuel Nartey George. They discussed collaboration in cyber defense, artificial intelligence, and digital governance.

A statement from the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted their shared interest. Both nations aim to strengthen government-to-government and business-to-business ties in the digital space.

Demokhin noted the growing dialogue between Ukraine and Ghana at high political levels. He praised Ghana’s Digital Agenda as a significant step towards the global digital economy.

He also shared Ukraine's achievements in digital transformation and cybersecurity resilience. Demokhin emphasized connecting Ukrainian IT firms with global markets through platforms like Code-UA.

Minister Samuel Nartey George appreciated Ukraine's advancements. He expressed interest in using Ukrainian expertise to improve Ghana’s cybersecurity systems.

George is keen on adopting AI tools for public administration. He also wants to establish Chief Digital Transformation Officers (CDTOs) within government institutions.

“We want to learn from Ukraine’s experiences,” he said. He stressed cross-border collaboration is vital for safeguarding digital infrastructure against cyber threats.

Both parties agreed to explore a joint Ukrainian-Ghanaian IT forum. This forum would enhance engagement between tech firms, public institutions, and investors from both countries.

The discussion included Ghana's role in supporting peace efforts in Ukraine. Demokhin thanked Ghana for its principled stance on achieving peace in Ukraine.

This virtual meeting builds on earlier talks during the Second Global Conference on Cyber Capacity Building held in Geneva. It reflects Ukraine's strategy of expanding cyber diplomacy with African nations like Ghana.

Officials from Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation also participated in the discussions. Both countries plan follow-up technical sessions soon to outline cooperation details and timelines.
