Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, supports the Health Minister's unannounced visits to healthcare facilities. He calls this initiative necessary and commendable.
On April 22, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh confirmed Dr. Adam Atiku's dismissal as CEO of the Tamale Teaching Hospital on Joy FM's NewsNight. A formal letter was issued to communicate Dr. Atiku’s termination.
During an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on April 24, Mr. Gyamfi praised the Minister's hands-on approach to healthcare assessment. He noted that unannounced visits provide a better understanding of public services.
Mr. Gyamfi stated, "The Minister deserves commendations for visiting health facilities unannounced." He emphasized accountability in public institutions, especially in healthcare.
He added that when issues arise, the Minister has the right to question responsible parties. If necessary, he should sanction those at fault, which Mr. Gyamfi believes is commendable.
Meanwhile, doctors at Tamale Teaching Hospital declared an indefinite suspension of emergency and outpatient services on April 23. They cited a hostile working environment and lack of basic medical supplies as reasons for their decision.
Additionally, they expressed feeling insulted by top government officials regarding their working conditions.
