Under Akufo-Addo, MPs homes were not invaded for demanding probes - Ntim Fordjour

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour is the MP for Assin South. He is also the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee. He has criticized President John Dramani Mahama's administration for growing intolerance. This follows an attempted raid on his home by National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) operatives.

The incident happened on Wednesday. Members of the Minority Caucus intervened to stop it. They condemned the raid as politically motivated.

On Thursday, April 10, Rev. Fordjour shared a social media post. He revealed that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had called him. Akufo-Addo expressed concern about the invasion of Fordjour's home.

Fordjour wrote, “Yesterday, as the former President placed a call to me and conveyed his kind thoughts... I came to appreciate how tolerance shapes our democracy.”

He compared today's political climate with that under Akufo-Addo’s leadership. He noted that no opposition MP faced harassment from state security forces during that time.

“In eight years of extraordinary leadership, no opposition MP was harassed,” he stated. “Every criticism and demand for probes were graciously accommodated.”

Rev. Fordjour called the attempted arrest “unprecedented” and a setback for democracy. He criticized President Mahama’s intolerance to scrutiny, saying, “This is indeed beyond the culture of silence.” He concluded with, “Truth will stand always.”
