The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT) is made up of 2023 graduates. They come from 46 accredited public colleges of education. The group has asked the government for immediate job opportunities. This would help address the staff shortage in public schools.
Paul Offeh Karikari is the National Organizer of CUTT. He stated that the graduates have passed the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination. They also completed their mandatory national service in February 2025 and are now waiting for postings.
During their service, they noticed some teachers were handling multiple subjects. These teachers often taught outside their areas of specialization. This situation negatively affects students' understanding.
Karikari emphasized that hiring these graduates would improve education quality in public schools. He mentioned that about 15,000 trained teachers are currently unemployed. The Coalition has petitioned the Minister of Education twice but received no response.
They urge the Ghana Education Service and Ministry of Education to consider their employment soon. If not, their skills may become obsolete.
Paul expressed concern about the prolonged silence from authorities. He said it causes financial, emotional, and psychological hardship for members.
The Coalition hopes that their requests will be acknowledged by those in power.
