The Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry has shared important financial information.
They revealed that the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration left GHS105 billion in commitments. This amount relates to road and infrastructure projects.
Emmanuel Cherry, the Chamber's CEO, explained that this figure includes contracts for roads, bridges, and overheads. However, many of these projects have not started or are incomplete.
Cherry stated, “As we speak now, the commitment is GHS105 billion.” He emphasized that many awarded contracts remain unstarted or unfinished.
He also mentioned that the current government needs to release funds quickly. “This means government now needs to cough up GHS21 billion for contractors,” he said.
Cherry referred to a recent ministerial vetting for the Minister of Roads and Highways. During this vetting, an initial commitment figure of GHS100 billion was mentioned.
At that time, available funds for ongoing and stalled works were between GHS20 billion and GHS25 billion.
