University Senior Staff call off strike following govt intervention

The Senior Staff Association–Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has ended its nationwide strike. This decision follows the government's response to their demands. The strike began on May 21, 2025, in collaboration with TUAAG and FUSSAG.

The unions protested against the government's failure to honor a signed agreement. This agreement was reached six months prior to the strike. On May 22, SSA-UoG announced that members should return to work on May 23.

The government, through the Ministry of Finance, has authorized the implementation of the agreement. This agreement is set to take effect from November 2024. The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has also instructed universities to start payments immediately.

In their statement, SSA-UoG expressed gratitude for the positive government response. They thanked Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and GTEC Director-General Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai for their efforts in resolving this issue.
