University of Ghana condemns assault on alleged gay, pledges thorough investigation

The Management of the University of Ghana has expressed deep concern over the reported assault on a young man accused of being homosexual around the southern part of the campus.

The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, has prompted a swift response from the university.

The University of Ghana would like to affirm its commitment to the safety, dignity and inclusivity of all persons, as stated in its Statutes," the statement read.

It added: "Management takes its commitment to the enforcement of the rules and regulations governing the University seriously, and any member of the University community identified to be involved in this cruel incident will be appropriately sanctioned."

Assuring the public of its commitment to a thorough investigation, the University of Ghana pledged to continue to collaborate with the Ghana Police Service to ensure the safety of all community members and visitors to its campuses.
