Senyo Hosi, the convener of the One Ghana Movement, has raised concerns. He believes foreign nationals involved in illegal small-scale mining pose a national security threat.
Speaking on TV3's The Key Points, Hosi criticized the creation of unmapped communities by these individuals. He called this situation alarming and disgraceful.
Hosi questioned, “Are we really safe as a country? Foreign nationals are creating their own communities.” He described these established communities as scary and urged Ghanaians to be concerned.
His worries come after reports of illegal mining settlements in forest zones. These areas are often fortified and out of reach for local authorities. Hosi expressed shock that such developments could occur unnoticed by national security.
He stated, “It is very scary that foreigners can infiltrate our country and create their own community. This is a disgrace.” He called for an investigation into how national security allowed this to happen.
Hosi emphasized that galamsey must be dealt with ruthlessly. Armed galamseyers have been shooting at security officers. He warned that Ghana is becoming a failing state. The president must take action and not let the country down, he added.
