Residents of Sekondi-Takoradi are facing severe water shortages. Erratic rationing disrupts daily life and essential activities. Areas like Pariscoa are among the hardest hit. Residents report going months without running water.
Jennifer Akakpo, a frustrated resident, shared her experience. “Water supply is a major challenge,” she said. “We pile up dirty laundry and our children search for water before school.” This often makes them late. Even with water tankers, deliveries take days.
Devine Adjoto also expressed concerns about the situation. He noted that his area receives water only once every three to seven months. “Low-lying areas may get some water occasionally,” he explained. “But those in higher areas get nothing.” Most residents now rely on sachet water.
Augustina Blankson mentioned her community's struggles as well. They have gone five months without any supply, yet bills still arrive monthly. “We buy a gallon for GHS2.5,” she said, “but when water comes, it stops quickly.” She described the crisis as unbearable.
Theresa Buah highlighted how even the elderly fetch water themselves due to shortages. She questioned the fairness of being charged for little to no service: “How can we be charged when we barely get water?”
Ewura Adutwumwaa discussed the financial burden on families. “I spend GHS10 daily for just four gallons,” she stated. She emphasized how this affects everything, including flushing toilets.
The Ghana Water Company has acknowledged these challenges. They attribute issues to pollution from illegal mining and outdated infrastructure. As frustrations grow, residents demand urgent solutions for reliable water supply in their region.
