Unrest erupts at GOIL over spontaneous staff transfers

Tensions are mounting at GOIL, Ghana's state-owned oil company, as a wave of transfer letters disproportionately targeting female staff in the Marketing Department has caused unrest.

Sources reveal that 44 workers, including regional and district managers, have received transfer notices, leading to concerns over the morale and stability of the workforce.

The transfers follow the recent retirement of Managing Director Kwame Osei-Prempeh on November 30, with some attributing the moves to a change in management.

Amid allegations of behind-the-scenes maneuvering for power, staff have appealed to Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei Opare and Vice President-elect Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang to intervene, citing the significant impact on female employees.

The workers stress the need for Prof. Opoku Agyemang to leverage her position to advocate for women in state-owned enterprises, as concerns of mistrust and low morale ripple across the company.
