Until Ayawaso West Wuogon, there hasn’t been any security apparatus whose personnel are hooded— Samoa Addo

Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo has called for bipartisan legislation. This legislation would define how Members of Parliament (MPs) can be invited or arrested by state security agencies.

His comments follow the attempted arrest of Assin South MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour. The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) tried to arrest him over claims related to the AirMed Ghana scandal.

Speaking on The Forum on Asaase Radio, Samoa Addo defended the NIB's actions. He urged the public to focus on legal processes rather than methods of invitation.

He noted that the current government introduced masked men into security operations. “Until Ayawaso West Wuogon, there hasn’t been any hooded personnel,” he said. He referenced violence during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election involving armed, hooded men.

Samoa Addo proposed a legislative solution to address tensions between MPs and security bodies. He suggested bipartisan legislation that aligns with the 1992 Constitution.

This legislation would detail how MPs should be invited or arrested by security agencies. His comments contribute to ongoing discussions about balancing parliamentary privileges and law enforcement responsibilities.
