The Upper East Region has discovered gold deposits in seven out of its 15 districts, according to Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga.
Speaking to journalists at the proposed Bolgatanga Airport site, Atanga emphasized that the airport’s construction would benefit the region’s growing mining sector by enabling secure and efficient transportation of gold.
He highlighted concerns over security risks, noting that miners and gold traders need a safer means of transporting their minerals without fear of armed robbery.
Atanga urged stakeholders to support the airport’s development, stressing its potential to transform the region’s economy.
He also pointed out that Upper East serves as a gateway to Burkina Faso and Togo, making an airport a strategic investment for cross-border trade.
