Upper East reports surge in teenage pregnancy due to illegal mining

In recent years, gold has been found in seven districts of the Upper East Region. These districts are Bawku West, Talensi, Nabdam, Bolgatanga Municipal, and Bongo. All except Talensi are involved in illegal mining activities known as galamsey.

FAWE reports that this rise in illegal mining is linked to more teenage pregnancies. They noted an increase in teenage pregnancies related to galamsey activities.

A Rocha Ghana has praised the police reshuffle in mining areas. They are calling for tougher actions against illegal mining practices.
