The Upward Motion Foundation and Smile Enough Africa (SEA) have teamed up. They are launching an empowerment program for adolescent girls in Ghana's Central Region. This initiative focuses on a school tour to inspire and educate girls. It aims to equip them with skills and confidence.
The program addresses important issues like low self-esteem and limited leadership opportunities. It also tackles the lack of mentorship for young girls, especially in underserved areas. The initiative will include mentorship sessions, workshops, and inspirational talks. It will target five schools in Agona West, Gomoa East, Gomoa West, and Assin districts from April to August 2025.
Key goals of this partnership include:
- Empowering girls with leadership and life skills through engaging sessions.
- Creating safe spaces for sharing experiences and building confidence.
- Training student volunteers as peer mentors to extend the project's impact.
- Encouraging civic responsibility through a structured mentorship program.
After the tour, selected participants will mentor junior high school students in their communities. This ensures that positive change continues beyond the initial program.
This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 (Quality Education) and 5 (Gender Equality). It aims to empower underprivileged girls by providing mentorship, leadership skills, and educational opportunities. This helps break cycles of inequality.
It also aligns with Africa's Agenda 2063, particularly Aspiration 6. This aspiration focuses on developing leaders who can drive socio-economic transformation across the continent.
