Ursula Owusu-Ekuful defends Akufo-Addo, slams NPP's ingratitude

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, defended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. She criticized some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for blaming him for electoral challenges.

In a strong Facebook post, she expressed her dismay at the vilification of the former President. She argued that those criticizing him would have praised him if the party had won.

“Thank you to all of you who are busy vilifying him today,” she wrote. “I am sure you would all have given him credit if we had won.”

Owusu-Ekuful highlighted Akufo-Addo’s dedication to the NPP. She noted he held the party together during its eight years in opposition and in government.

She dismissed claims that he undermined Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign. She called these accusations illogical and unfair.

The Minister pointed out Akufo-Addo's financial support for the party over eight years. He consistently funded operations at all levels, including monthly allowances for constituencies and MPs.

“If after a lifetime of sacrifice, we can call him names, he says no problem,” she stated. She expressed concern about growing ingratitude within the party.

Owusu-Ekuful also defended Akufo-Addo’s legacy. She cited achievements like stable electricity supply, expanded education access, job creation, and road infrastructure development.

She questioned whether the party deserved loyalty from its dedicated members if they dismissed such contributions. “If we don’t appreciate people like Akufo-Addo, is the NPP worth dying for?” she asked.
