Minister Sam George has issued a warning to those holding frequency authorizations. He stated that licenses will be revoked if they remain inactive for two years.
In an interview on TV3’s New Day, he stressed the importance of following the authorization terms.
“When you receive frequency authorization, it lasts five years,” he explained. “However, you must go operational within two years.”
He warned that failing to meet this requirement would result in losing the authorization.
“If you have held the frequency for over two years without going live, consider it lost,” he said.
Sam George emphasized that this policy is non-negotiable. It aims to prevent hoarding of state assets that could be used productively.
“You cannot hold state assets without using them,” he added. “The terms are clear: you must go live in two years.”
He confirmed that dormant licenses will be revoked and reassigned.
“We’ll terminate these licenses and give them to applicants ready to comply,” he stated.
