Stay Away from Happy Couples
Don’t get too close to a happy couple. They might gossip about you. They share both good and bad things. To them, it’s not gossip; it’s love songs. By the way, what is the Ayigbe word for ‘thermometer’? In my wife’s language, it’s ‘shhhhhhhh’. Is that true? Whether true or false, we can’t doubt what we don’t know.
Weekend Reflections
It’s weekend again! Last week, Jesus was betrayed and crucified. But He resurrected to save us all. Amen! Don’t worry about those who pretend to like or hate you. Where are the people who shouted “we want Barnabas”? We all call on Jesus for joy and salvation!
Ghana Month Highlights
Last month was Ghana Month, but 2023 stood out for me. JOY did a great job discussing Ghanaian culture. One topic that intrigued me was an internationally recognized Ghanaian dish. A resource person suggested apapransa based on research findings. Do we really need research for this?
I don’t remember the last time I ate apapransa. It fills you up quickly, so cravings may not return soon.
Food Favorites
Later that afternoon, Lexis discussed food favorites with listeners. My personal favorite is konkonte! My Mum said it helps with stomach ulcers (not scientifically proven). I was surprised fufu didn’t rank higher than konkonte since I eat it often.
Foreigners enjoy fufu when they visit Ghana, sometimes using forks and knives!
A Surprising Caller
Then a caller mentioned ‘fetri totto’. Lexis was confused by this term! ‘Fetri detsi’ or okro soup is popular in Ghana. The pairing determines its popularity; akple with fetri detsi is well-known.
But ‘fetri totto’? Don’t mention that around my neighbor Ataa Nikoi! The difference lies in preparation: fetri detsi uses chopped okro while fetri totto uses grated okro.
Regional Variations of Okro Soup
In some regions, dried okro is ground into powder for soup. Growing up with my Kasena neighbors in Kisseman, they called it ‘kuka’. It pairs well with tuo zaafi and grain dishes!
If any food should be marketed internationally, I believe fufu has an edge because it's already known globally.
Cultural Misunderstandings
Just so you know, 'totto' doesn’t mean something else in Greek! If you're thinking differently, remember Jesus just resurrected last week.
Food preferences are subjective; what one loves another may dislike.
Voting Mishaps
Some may not know about my friend who voted against himself! He realized his mistake only after voting was done. In my area? Voting can lead to unexpected outcomes!
Why fear the Bible or Koran but not names like Nogokpo?
Bachelor's Night Experience
Speaking of food—don’t even go there! I once used my pet goat for light soup at my bachelor’s night before marriage. I invited only 15 friends but ended up with over 150 guests!
Each car had at least two people inside—almost 300 adults showed up! Alex advised adding more pepper to the soup and having plenty of water available.
That evening turned into a miracle story like Jesus feeding 5,000 people!
Surprising Outcomes at Dinner
Everyone got served satisfactorily despite only having one goat! Most couldn’t finish their meat after tasting the spicy soup.
Some drank buckets of water to cool down from the heat!
My stubborn goat had plans too—it always tried to cough after eating beans!
Did you know men gossip more than women? Give us an award for it! I'm part of a gossip group where we talk about beautiful women.
Have a nice weekend and remember to close your windows if they hurt your eyes—even if the view is beautiful! This advice will help you save money!
