Utility tariffs impacting profits and growth of hotels - Ghana Hoteliers

The Ghana Hotels Association is concerned about high utility costs. They say these costs are hurting their profits and growth.

Starting May 3, 2025, electricity tariffs will rise by 14.75%. Water tariffs will increase by 4.02%.

The hotel association believes this adjustment will harm their operations.

George Arkoh Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, expressed alarm over these impacts. He said, “The high cost of power and water prevents us from expanding.”

He added that they struggle to pay taxes as required. He spoke during a health walk for the association’s 50th anniversary.

Members of the Ghana Hotels Association walked through Kumasi streets. They joined other labor organizations to celebrate International Workers’ Day.

This health walk is part of activities for their anniversary later this year. The group plans initiatives to improve the hospitality sector in Ghana.

Hoteliers in the Ashanti region want to be included in the government’s Black Star Experience. Mr. Arkoh Mensah believes this initiative would help local hospitality and tourism industries grow.
