Sokode Senior High Technical School in the Volta Region has reopened. The school closed on February 23, 2025, due to a violent clash. This incident involved students and local youth.
School authorities have assured parents of improved security measures. They want to ensure student safety during academic activities.
The closure followed an incident on February 22nd. About 42 students allegedly broke bounds and fought with local youth. The altercation left some students and residents injured.
In response, the Volta Regional Education Directorate ordered a temporary shutdown. They consulted key stakeholders and the Regional Security Council (RCC) first. This decision aimed to restore peace in the area.
After weeks of discussions, school management met with parents on March 24th. This meeting facilitated the return of students to school.
Mr. Isaac Kofi Dzidzienyo, the Headmaster, spoke to the media. He assured parents that calm had returned to the school. Adequate security measures are now in place for student safety.
He also confirmed that those involved in the violence would face disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, Togbe Krakani III, Mankrado of the Sorkode Traditional Council, made a statement. He urged the new Volta Regional Police Commander to hold those responsible accountable under the law.
