Togbe Kwasi Amedor III is the sub-divisional chief of Mepe Gbavie-Dekume. He has urgently appealed to the government for help. This follows a mysterious skin disease outbreak in Avetakpo farming community.
The outbreak has affected over 46 people. Residents, especially children and adults, are suffering greatly. Symptoms include severe pain and sleeplessness, raising concerns among locals and traditional leaders.
Togbe Amedor III explained that many residents cannot afford medical treatment. The Ho East District Health Directorate estimates that GH₵ 6,642.50 is needed for care. The community lacks the funds to cover this amount.
“We plead with the government to assist us,” said the chief. He emphasized the urgent need for medical help.
There is also a lack of clear diagnosis from health officials. They have not revealed the name or cause of the disease. This uncertainty worries residents as it spreads to nearby communities.
Togbe Amedor III pointed out another issue: access to clean drinking water. Residents share water sources with cattle, increasing contamination risks.
He urges the government and health authorities to act quickly. They should provide funding for treatment and investigate the disease's cause. Preventive measures are also necessary to stop its spread.
“This situation is dire,” he stated. “We need support—financial aid for treatment and long-term solutions like clean water access.”
