Women in the Agortime Ziope District of the Volta Region are disappointed. They are frustrated by the failure to appoint Madam Vicentia Sename Leyo as District Chief Executive (DCE).
The women see this decision as a missed chance for inclusive governance. They believe it undermines gender equity and women's empowerment in the district. Appointing a woman would show support for female leadership at the local level.
Miss Mary Deladem, spokesperson for the market women, spoke on their behalf. She expressed that women contribute significantly to the district's development. Despite this, they are often overlooked for leadership roles.
Women lead in agriculture, trade, education, and community service. However, they still face barriers to leadership and decision-making positions.
The women are appealing to the president to reconsider Madam Vicentia Leyo Sename for DCE. They hope for a future with gender-inclusive leadership that reflects everyone's aspirations in the district.
