Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), criticized Kwabena Adu-Boahene's defense in the GH¢49.1 million controversy. He called it “hollow” and lacking credibility.
During a panel discussion on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on May 8, Vanderpuye expressed disappointment in Adu-Boahene’s legal strategy. He specifically targeted Adu-Boahene's lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea. Vanderpuye felt that allowing a public statement before court proceedings was unwise.
He said, “It is very unfortunate. My old classmate, lawyer Atta Akyea, did not do well.” He added that such statements could weaken their defense in court. “You have allowed ordinary people to dismantle your defense,” he noted.
Vanderpuye also criticized the content of Adu-Boahene’s letter to the National Security Coordinator. This letter was seen by the media on May 7. It aimed to explain how the disputed funds were used for various operational activities.
He stated, “The statement is so hollow; it is not defensible.” He pointed out that timelines do not match up and there may be no evidence for claims made in the letter. Many transactions lack proper documentation due to their nature.
Adu-Boahene's letter claimed that funds were managed between two National Security accounts for urgent operations. However, the case has not officially started in court yet and remains under scrutiny from both the public and legal experts.
