Veep donates four months’ salary to Ghana Medical Trust Fund

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has donated her salary. She gave four months' worth to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known as Mahama Cares.

President John Dramani Mahama announced this on May 7. He provided an update on his first 120 days in office.

The president emphasized his administration's commitment to social interventions. These include Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities and the Mahama Cares Fund.

He described the Mahama Cares Fund as a vital national policy. It offers financial support to Ghanaians with chronic diseases not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). This fund acts as a lifeline for those needing chronic disease care.

On April 29, President Mahama launched the fund at the University of Ghana Medical Centre. He pledged six months of his salary as his contribution.

“Vice President Naana Jane also pledged four months of her salary,” he said.

The president directed all government appointees to contribute at least one month’s salary to the fund.

He encouraged every Ghanaian to contribute if they can. The short code for contributions across all mobile networks is *255#.

Disbursement of funds will start once the governing board is established.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund Bill is ready for cabinet approval. After that, it will be forwarded to Parliament.

“We are united in this mission,” President Mahama stated. “We aim to bring health, healing, hope, and joy.”
