Veteran journalist Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng dead at 74

Renowned journalist and media trainer Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng has died. He passed away in London on May 26 after months of illness. He had been receiving treatment there since February.

His death was confirmed by his close friend, Prof. Kwame Karikari, a media expert.

Nana Gyan-Apenteng was a former editor and columnist for The Mirror weekly newspaper. He held the title of Apagyahene of Tafo Eti in the Eastern Region.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was deputy editor at West Africa magazine in London. After returning to Ghana in the 1990s, he worked with the Third World Network. There, he led the communication unit and edited its magazine, Africa Agenda.

He also served as a media trainer and consultant for various organizations. These included MTN, UN agencies, Media Foundation for West Africa, and STAR Ghana.

Nana Gyan-Apenteng graduated from Apam Secondary School and the University of Ghana, Legon. From 2013 to 2018, he was a member and chairman of the National Media Commission. He also served as president of the Ghana Association of Writers.

He is survived by six children. The family will announce burial and funeral arrangements soon.
